Ayurveda – the Science of Life

The word Ayurveda means the science of life. Yoga and Ayurveda are related as sister disciplines. Both are based on deep wisdom and knowledge that were acquired during meditations performed by sages thousands of years ago. A famous Ayurvedic doctor once said: “Ayurveda does not add to years to life, but life to years”.

This course contains the basic theory of ayurveda applicable to everyday life as well as practical learning of basic ayurvedic body care such as oil massage, hair and skin beauty, make-up, ayurvedic cooking…

CURRICULUM:
Daily practices

There will be daily asana, pranayama, meditation and karma yoga practices other than the lectures and course topics.

Homa and Puja

Homa and Puja will be performed by traditional Brahmin priests.

Off-Day

There is one day off in a week. Students are required to attend morning and evening satsangs and to complete their karma yoga duties. The rest of the day is free for their personal study and activities. A day trip may be organized on request at additional payment.

Attendance

Attendance at all activities is mandatory. Don’t let your likes and dislikes affect your commitent to the course. Slight changes in the program may occur.

Assessment and Certification

The students are continuously assessed throughout the course at all levels. The final result will be based on internal assessment, attendance and the final exam.

Prerequisite

Yoga teachers, yoga therapists, students of Ayurveda, students of Indian/Vedic culture or others with interest in Ayurveda are eligible to attend this course. Some basic knowledge about Indian culture, yoga or Vedic culture is an advantage, but not mandatory, for a better understanding of the subject. An open mind is necessary to follow this knowledge to the people who educated in modern system.

Lecturers:
Harilalji Karanath
Born 1970,comes from a traditional family in Kerala, South India and is one of the founders of Arsha Yoga Gurukulam. He was born and brought up in a traditional Indian environment with agriculture, Ayurveda, Vedanta and Yoga. After attaining the title ‘Yogacharya’, he lived and taught yoga in Sivananda ashram in Kerala, Delhi and the Himalayas. Later he studied and practiced yoga therapy at sVYASA -the university for yoga- in Karnataka and completed a full time diploma course with an ‘A’ grade. The subject of his thesis was ‘Integrated approach of yoga therapy for psychosomatic diseases’. Curious to experience the western culture, which was the background of most of his students in India, he came to Germany for the first time in the spring of 2001 and continues to visit Europe ever since. He gives seminars and courses on Yoga Therapy, yoga psychology and yoga philosophy in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Germany as well as individual yoga therapy. He is also Yoga acharya /Therapist in Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College near Ernakulam in South India. Harilalji is currently studying under his guru Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha.
Dr. Neel Venugopal
Dr. Nil Venugopal is an enthusiastic Doctor practicing the ages old Indian medicine branch, Ayurveda. Dr. Neel obtained his Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from the famous University of Kannur in Kerala, a state of India.
Dr. Nil is noted for his combination therapy of Marma (Vital Point), Yoga and Ayurveda. His exposure to the world famous Kalaripayattu (a martial arts having roots in Kerala) and formal training in modern physio-therapies has strengthened his capacity as a sports-medic as well. Dr. Neel was one of the hand-picked support medics for world class athletes during the 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi.

Dr. Neel is currently chief physician at Theertha Ayurveda clinic , Chavakkad . Apart from his daily routines, he is involved in exploring the depths of Ayurveda and researching on the therapeutic and medicinal aspects of various herbs and plants.

Dr. M Prasad
is principal at Ashtavaidyam ayurveda university. director of Sunethri ayurveda hospital.(www.sunethriayurveda.com) After his study in ayurveda medicine, gone under 21 yrs of traditional training with Raghavan thirumulpad, a legend in ayurveda. He is also the principal of the Ashtamgam Ayurveda College in Palakkad, Kerala. (www.ashtamgam.org)
Sudarsh Namboothiri
Sudarsh Namboothiri was born in 1982 and is one of the founder member of Arsha yoga. He was born and brought up in a traditional brahmin family of Kerala. Other than his formal vedic education in tanric ritual and recitation from his family tradition,he was trained under the well-known tantric personality ‘Vettikott Appan’ in tantra and rituals. He started his yoga life with Harilalji from the very beginning Arsha yoga. Later on, he studied with Sivananda ashrams and the Divine life society in Rishikesh.He was the head of the yoga section at the Kerala center in Moscow and after his return to India he has joined Arsha Yoga Gurukulam.

PLEASE NOTE: The teaching and schedule will be in a traditional Indian Gurukula system which may be different from what you have learned until now. All participants should be physically and mentally fit when joining the course in order to be able to feel and experience the wisdom of the ancient science of yoga.

Following the ashram rules as well as respect the local culture is mandatory.

Course donations are non-refundable, however any unused amount may be transferred, minus an administration fee of € 100, to another course within one year of the original course starting date.

Arrival day: Friday, 6 December 2019

Start of the course: 3pm on 7 December

Please arrive latest by 5 pm on the 6th, you are welcome to book your stay 1 day prior to the beginning of the course to enjoy the serene atmosphere, get accustomed to the climate or to recover from your jet lag. (additional cost of 1.000 INR per night applies).

End of the course: Wednesday, 18 December at 9am

Course fee: EARLY BIRD discount 690€ until 30 June 2019, 750€ thereafter incl. food & accommodation and all yoga classes and lectures.

Non-refundable deposit of 150€ is due upon registration.
